The phenomenon of convergence
Similar solutions promoting the survival appear in various branches of the evolutionary tree. Bodies flying neighbours in insects, fish (exocet), reptiles (missing), marsupials, mammals.
Shape, size similar with fins for an adaptation to swim fast in mammals (dolphins), fish (sharks), reptiles (ichtyosaures disappeared).
Creating a dozen different types of eye with all the formation of an image.
Sagan and Drake have proposed to apply this convergence phenomenon to the emergence of intelligence and high technology, any inhabited planet, with sufficient time, lead to a civilization close to ours, even by other biological pathways
