A pilot describes a close encounter "incredible"

Back on the facts - Source: UPI, December 31, 1986
"It was unbelievable. "These words are Kenju Terauchi, a pilot of the Japan Air Lines who was trying to describe an incident of theft, which has so far defied explanation.
The veteran pilot says that three unidentified flying objects - two small and one being twice the size of an aircraft carrier - have followed his cargo plane over 400 miles in the Arctic skies.
Terauchi acknowledged yesterday that some of his colleagues have doubts about what he, his co-pilot and flight engineer, saw November 17 while they were travelling to Iceland Anchorage.
The crew of 1628 JAL reported seeing flashing lights follow their jet into the night to clear the Federal Administration of Aviation, who was interviewed in Anchorage. The aircraft was later to travel to Tokyo.
Monday officials confirmed that the FAA controller who was attending flight 1628 saw a mysterious object hanging behind the jet on its radar, and officials of the Air Force in Alaska Air Command said their radar had detected something near the plane.
During the interview yesterday, Terauchi, 47 years, a pilot with 29 years experience, said he had seen three UFOs and that at some point the two small appeared directly in front of the cockpit of the Boeing 747, very closely.
Terauchi objects called "two small vessels and the mother ship," and expressed his amazement that they disappeared and reparaissaient and moved quickly and stopped suddenly. He said he could not explain the events, except speculating he saw something of extraterrestrial origin.
Speaking in English with occasional help of a translator, Terauchi drew maps, images and added annotations techniques to describe the incident.
Terauchi has often repeated that the object which appeared on the radar of the Air Force and the FAA was "very big - twice as large as aircraft carriers. "
Smaller UFOs do not appear on his radar, he said. No additional item was detected on the radar of the Air Force or the FAA.
Terauchi said that the three crew members saw the lights of two small objects. He pointed to a drawing showing the FAA lights in training, each object had what appeared to be two panels of lights.
The captain said he saw the lights on the largest object and once, near Fairbanks, he saw his silhouette as he was at least eight miles. The design that has made it resembled a large shelled nuts.
The crew was not frightened, "said Terauchi. Their desire was, he said, "We want to avoid that. "And so - with the direction and permission of the FAA - the crew lost altitude and made many maneuvers, but the objects were.
"They always followed us," said Terauchi, and FAA radar has confirmed that at least one subject has remained despite the maneuvers.
When asked if he was nervous, Terauchi replied, "Absolutely not, I am the master. I can not be nervous. "
When asked if he knew why UFOs spun his plane, Terauchi laughed and replied, "We transportions Beaujolais, a wine made famous in France. Maybe they want to drink. "
The head of FAA security, Jim Derry, who interviewed the crew, said they were "normal, professional, rational, (and had) no alcohol or drugs. "
Control reports stolen FAA indicate that the mysterious object stayed with the flight 1628 for at least 32 minutes. Terauchi think it was longer.
The flight controller directing the plane JAL reported that the object on his radar was approached about five miles from the jet.
